Ruth M. Hughes

Ruth M. Hughes, 88 of Tequesta, Florida passed away on November 7, 2023. Ruth was born on December 6, 1934, in Monroe, Wisconsin and was married to Robert E. (Bob) Hughes until his death on April 15, 2013. In the years before moving to Florida in 1971, Ruth and Bob owned a restaurant/bar in Loves Park, Illinois known as Hughes Town Hall. After moving to Tequesta, they were the owners/operators of Ralph’s Stand-Up Bar on Center Street until their retirement. They loved to travel in their motorhome following the Nascar circuit. Mooresville, North Carolina became their second home and the birthplace of many wonderful lasting friendships and years of enjoyment. Ruth was a volunteer at the Jupiter Medical Thrift Shop for several years on Center Street. Ruth’s favorite spot was her corner room in the garage, set up with a table, chairs, fans, heaters and of course a TV, her “Happy Place” to visit with her family and friends. She is survived by her children and their families: Scott E. Hughes (Rita Sutton). Sandra Hughes-Fisher, husband Stephen E. Fisher, children Jeffrey M. Fisher (Kathy) and Kierstyn S. Fisher. Chadwick J. Fisher (Alexandra Squadrito). Lexis K. Frend (Dan) and Brooke K. Frend; Sheri Carter and son Troy A. Dominguez; Staci I. Hughes and husband Dean L Willbur Jr, children, Austin G. Longwell (Christina) children Hailey Meyer and Ryder G. Longwell, Katelyn Willbur (Robert Stefinsky), and Tyler R. Longwell. Ruth was affectionately called Nana by all. She is survived by her sisters Evelyn Layng (Howard) and Alice Shelton. Ruth additionally leaves behind her longest and dearest friend Jeanne Shallenberger. Those two ladies have a bond like no other. Also Karen Tesauro affectionately called #4. Bob pinned the name on Karen as the “4th daughter”. Ruth will be missed by all who knew her. She had a quick whit and loved the one liners. Our family gives special thanks to Home Suite Home - 4, for the excellent love and care they provided our mother during her stay. A Memorial Gathering will be held at 1:00 PM on December 2, 2023 at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street, Jupiter, FL 33458. Donations can be made to Trustbridge Hospice of Palm Beach County.
