Raul Horacio Ibanez

Ibanez, 76, died on Monday September 16th in Port St. Lucie, Florida after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Raul was a proud Argentinian, born on October 11, 1947 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was the son of Francisco and Ana Matilde Ibanez and father of Andrea Ibanez. He was, also, a devoted husband to his late wife Mary and a loving grandfather to seven beautiful grandchildren; Shawn, Kristina, Rainey, Adela, Mares, Selene and Xavier. Raul moved to Venezuela with his daughter Andrea Ibanez and first wife, Mirta Lopez de Ibanez. He stayed in touch with Mirta until the last day of his life. In 1984, would move the family to California where he became a Salesperson and in 1987, Mirta and Raul separated. Raul moved to Florida that year, where he proudly worked as a health insurance agent for many years. While living in Florida, he met and married Mary Valdepenas. Raul enjoyed many hobbies including cooking, teaching, playing card games, drawing, watching movies and watching the Miami Dolphins game; but, he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Sadly, in October of 2023, Raul was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. He faced this devastating diagnosis with courage and fought until the very last minute. The battle drained him of his energy and, in the end, it would take his life. Throughout his 11-month treatment, Raul would still cook as much as he could- cooking was one of his love languages and the one everyone appreciated most! Raul was headstrong but he was also one of the most loving, loyal, enthusiastic and dedicated people you would ever have the privilege of knowing. And, you can easily say that every title he held was held with pride and honor. He was a man of faith with a heart to serve. Friends and family will gather to celebrate the beautiful Argentinian life of Raul Ibanez and the many memorable moments they’ve all shared with Raul. Whether it was in the kitchen teaching his grandchildren how to make arepas, in the living room teaching us how to dance, or at the dinner table playing Blackjack- no matter where it was or what it was, around him it was always laughter. Raul is now with the Lord but forever in our hearts! Please join us for a Visitation from 1:30pm-4:30pm and a Celebration of his Life at 3:00pm on Saturday, September 21st at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, in Jupiter, FL.
