Eleanor Beatrice (Thornley) Adams

Eleanor (Ellie) Adams, 79, died peacefully in her sleep on August 21, 2023 after a lengthy battle with lymphoma. Eleanor lived most of her life in Taunton, MA where she raised her family before moving to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1993. Ellie was a loving, dedicated mother and enjoyed her role as “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them and always made an effort to attend their sports games. She also shared her love of food with her family and would often have them helping her in the kitchen. Whether it was baking, making jam, stuffed cabbage, or kale soup, Ellie always looked forward to cooking for loved ones, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Her hands were rarely still as she was always cleaning, caring for her pets and plants, or helping others in her free time. She was an avid reader and had a strong faith in God. She enjoyed her daily Bible devotions and study time each morning. Her faith gave her an individual strength to rise above hardships that came along in her life. Ellie endured struggles but they didn’t define her. She was extremely patient, self-effacing, organized, and frugal. These are some of the qualities that she instilled in her children. Ellie worked as a bookkeeper most of her life and how she supported her family. She had a strong work ethic and was often the first to arrive and last to leave. Always an early riser, for many years she met a group of friends for coffee every morning before work at the local Dunkin’ Donuts near her home in Florida. The group got so close that they would often meet there again in the evening for game nights. The shop owner even installed multiple round tables because they drew such a crowd. This is also where Ellie met her third husband Harry Adams! Faith, Family and Friends, this is the motto that Ellie lived by. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 - "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." Eleanor Adams is survived by her children, Cynthia Pendergast and husband Jan of Brockton, MA, James Vieira of Fall River, MA, Brian Vieira and wife Danielle of Pawtucket, RI, Joseph Andrade, Jr. and wife Heather of West Palm Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Zane Pendergast, Joshua Vieira, Kaitlin Vieira, Jen Jardim, Hailey Vieira, Tyler Andrade, Allison Andrade; three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by first husband, James Vieira and preceded in death by her second husband, Joseph Andrade and third husband, Harry Adams. The family will gather for a private celebration of life at a later date.
