Theresa Ann (Hoctor) Dodge

Our beloved wife and mom, Theresa Ann Hoctor Dodge, 81, of Bloomfield, passed away on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014 at her home with her loving family at her side. Terry was born in New York City on Halloween October 31, 1932, the daughter of John and Theresa Hoctor. She enjoyed 58 years of marriage with her best friend and husband, Dallas C Dodge, Sr. She leaves behind three devoted sons who cared for her in her last few months of her life, Dallas C Dodge, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of West Hartford, Jason Dodge and his wife Carol of South Glastonbury, and John Dodge of Bloomfield. Terry was a loving "Nana" to seven grandchildren, Dallas Christopher Dodge and his wife Jessica, Michael Dodge, Taylor Dodge, Ryan Dodge, Matthew Dodge, Jeremy Dodge and Alexandra Dodge as well as a great-grandchild, Dallas Anthony Dodge. She also leaves behind her sister Mary Whalen of Westport and many loving nieces and nephews. Terry was the Vice- President of her senior class at Charles E. Gorton High School in Yonkers, New York and later graduated from the Washington Secretarial School in New York City. She worked for CBS television in Manhattan in the 1950's and was secretary for the on air talent; while there she worked with Cabel Greet, a noted expert in linguistics and grammar. After her marriage, she moved to Connecticut and raised her three boys in Manchester. She later worked at Hartford National Bank and finally at Cigna Insurance in Bloomfield as an executive secretary. Terry enjoyed traveling, painting, fine dining, and the theater. Terry was a beautiful and elegant woman who lit up any room that she was in and we are better for having known her. Special thanks to the Seabury VNA and hospice workers who took care of her in her final months. A memorial service celebrating Terry's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Avenue in Hartford. A private burial was held at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers donations in Terry's name may be made to Foodshare, 450 Woodland Avenue, Bloomfield, CT 06002-1342.
