Stanton W. "Stan" Schreiber

Stanton W. Schreiber, 95, of West Hartford, husband of the late Frances "Suzy" (Palm) Schreiber, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at his home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Henry and Lillian (Mansman) Schreiber, Stan graduated from Brooklyn Tech, a magnet school for Math and Science, and attended Cooper Union College in Manhattan. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a pilot, stationed in California. At the end of World War II, he and Suzy, pregnant with their first child, drove across country in their convertible, and settled in New York. Stan took a job with General Electric and in 1957 was transferred to Connecticut where he worked as a production manager until his retirement in 1981. He was a member and served as treasurer of the Silver City Flying Club. Stan and Suzy complimented each other. He taught her to love flying and she helped him develop an appreciation for opera. They were avid bridge players and played in two groups that figured prominently in their social life for years. Stan had many interests. He dabbled in the stock market and checked his portfolio on his laptop well into his nineties. He enjoyed skiing, politics, the library, gardening and his convertibles. He loved family gatherings at his home in West Hartford and, in recent years, enjoyed traveling to Jackson, Wyoming to visit his children. He will be dearly missed. Stan leaves his four children, Susan Foster and her husband William of Bethel, Cynthia Wuerslin and her husband Peter of Jackson, WY, Carol Pike and her husband Donald of Northfield, MA, and William Schreiber and his fiancée Catherine Wyer of Wilson, WY. He also leaves his six grandchildren, Wendy, William, David and his wife Tammy, Sarah, Susan, and Charles; and his two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Christopher. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
