Robert D. Bodington

August 17, 1925 - December 14, 2014

On December 14, 2014 Robert D. Bodington of Juno Beach left for his heavenly home to rejoin his beloved wife, Helen. Robert was born on August 17, 1925 and was a native of Little Compton, RI. After graduating from Mt. Herman School for Boys he joined the US Navy (Sea Bees) Construction Battalion, WWII in the Pacific. Robert's parents encouraged him to pursue his passion for golf which resulted in a successful 45 year career that began at Brae Burn Country Club, outside Boston, MA. He went on to work at many country clubs such as Greenwich, CT; Augusta, GA; Seminole, Juno Beach, FL, where he met and married his wife in 1955; Farmington, CT; Hartford, CT as head pro for 20 years; and Newport, RI from 1953-1955 and again from 1983-1985. The Bodingtons moved to Florida to enjoy retirement living which included beautiful days of golfing. Robert especially loved his Bunker Club. He and his wife loved being with friends and of course, traveling. He had many accomplishments throughout his career but he was particularly proud of being the CT PGA Champion, 1960 and also being referred to by his golf buddies as BMW, the Perfect Driving Machine. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Frederick M. Bodington, Jr. (Murial); nieces Jutta (George) Kohn, Marsha (David) Berube, Susan (Hank) Jackson; nephews Ted (Peggy) Bodington, Russell (Karen) Bodington, Robert (Irene) Kneeland; adopted sons John Murphy and Charlie Day; and caregivers Phyllis Gray, Maria Mannino, Wyvonnie Allen, Tanya Smith and Linda Carney. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen and his sister, Gwendolyn Ball. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM on January 5, 2015 at the Waterford, 605 Universe Blvd., Juno Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers consider a contribution made in memory of Robert D. Bodington to his favorite charity: Smile Train, 28th floor, 41 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10010.
