Nancy H. Marshall

Nancy Hotchkiss Marshall of West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully at age 92 on Friday May 22, 2015. During her remaining days she was surrounded by family and loving care-givers in her home. Nancy, the daughter of Roland and Lillian Hotchkiss, was born in Waterbury CT on March 13, 1923. She graduated from St. Margaret's School in 1940 and Connecticut College in 1944, with a degree in Fine Arts. She maintained strong ties to both schools. After her studies, Nancy worked with naval intelligence in New York City during WWII. She became a wife and mother and dedicated her time and love to raising five children while working outside of the home as well. She was a buyer for Sport Ltd. Ski Shop and later became the manager of The Action Dance Shop. One of her greatest joys was her position as the receptionist at Renbrook School for over twenty years. Nancy was involved with the Universalist Church of West Hartford, The Garden Club, The Hartford Ski Club, The Hartford Tennis Club, and The Oswegatchie Hills Club on Saunders Point in Niantic, CT. She enjoyed winters skiing at Mad River Glen in Vermont, and summers at Saunders Point in Niantic. Nancy loved to garden and added an artistic eye to all that she touched, but she will be most remembered for her gentle and loving spirit. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years J. Murray Marshall. She leaves her beloved children, Craig Donovan and his wife Frances of Toronto, Canada, Suzanne Grosch and her husband Doug of Farmington, CT, Richard Donovan and his wife Susan of Andover, NJ, Nancy Piotrowski and her husband John of Salem, SC, Joanna "Jonni" Marshall and Michael Olivieri of Simsbury, CT. In addition she was blessed with nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She also leaves her loving brother and sister-in-law John and Nancy Hotchkiss of Southbury, CT. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Universalist Church of West Hartford, CT, 433 Fern Street. May you rest in God's arms.
