Mary B. Kunz

Mary B. Kunz passed away on May 1, 2018 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years Cleon V. Kunz. They made their home in West Hartford and together they raised 5 children. Mary leaves behind her children Richard Kunz and wife Hope; Linda Greca; Pam Spadaccini and husband Albert; Steven Kunz and wife Vickie; Greg Kunz and wife Mary Ellen. Mary was “Grammie” to 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She is survived by her sister-in- law Pat Beals; many nieces and nephews and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her sister Janette Nedeau; and 6 brothers Stanley, Clifford, Randolph, Burton, Everett and Maurice Beals. Mary was born on a potato farm in Blaine Maine. She was the daughter of Archie and Ellen (Brown) Beals. She graduated from Aroostook Central Institute, Presque Isle Normal School, University of Maine and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Hartford. She taught school for 22 years, seventeen of them teaching first grade (her favorite) in Newington, Ct. Mary attended First Baptist Church of West Hartford where she served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher and was on many committees. After retiring from teaching she joined the church knitting group making prayer shawls for ill members of the congregation. Mary formed many friendships at First Baptist Church and considered them all her “Church family”. Mary and Cleon traveled to many parts of the world and throughout the U. S. Mary especially loved their trip to the Holy Land with a First Baptist church group of friends. On that trip she was baptized in the Jordan River which was one of the greatest highlights of all her travels. Mary’s children and grandchildren will always have wonderful memories of weekends and vacations spent at Mary and Cleon’s homes on Orr’s Island and York Maine. Mary and Cleon moved to Cedar Mountain Commons of Newington in August of 2010 where they enjoyed a care free life style. Mary made many friends and connections in the 8 years living there. Mary’s family is thankful to the staff of Hartford Healthcare Hospice and especially the nurses who’s goal was making Mary comfortable and in having the best possible last weeks of her life. The family is grateful to the aides and nurses at Cedar Mountain for the help Mary received in her daily life and for all the employees at Cedar Mountain. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church 90 N. Main St. West Hartford on Saturday June 9 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be donated to the Memorial Gift Fund of First Baptist Church of West Hartford or to a charity of the individuals choice.
