Mary Joy Guthrie Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary McClelland (Joy) Guthrie, age 82 of Palm Beach Gardens passed away on Friday March 22, 2013 at Hospice of Palm Beach County. She was born in Memphis, TN. Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jack; sons Richard (Patricia) of Orlando and Randall of Port St. Lucie; grandchildren Aubrey, Lauren, Nicholas, Brittany and Amanda. She was predeceased by her parents McClelland and Mary Joy of Memphis, TN. Mary was Valedictorian of her graduating class at All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg, MS and graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Class of 1951 with honors. After marriage to Jack in 1952 they lived in Tullahoma, TN before moving to Palm Beach County in 1958 where they have lived since, except for the period between 1983 and 1988 when they lived in Glastonbury, CT. She enjoyed working as a volunteer for many organizations and was a substitute teacher in Palm Beach County elementary schools. Mary was a member of PGA National Golf Club where she was a golfer and an avid bridge player. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Taylor and Modeen Funeral Home in Jupiter, FL. There will be a memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday April 13, 2013 at 4:00 PM, followed by the family receiving friends. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Marys' favorite charities which were St. Jude's Children's Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or STOP!
