Mary Ellen McGinniss Bernstein

Mary Ellen McGinniss Bernstein, 86, of Jupiter, FL died peacefully surrounded by her children on December 24, 2021. Mary Ellen was born on March 30, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to John and Ida McGinniss. She graduated from Little Flower High School and worked in advertising until she met the love of her life Martin Bernstein. Mary Ellen and Marty were married on July 20, 1963 and began a beautiful life journey together. Their family grew to include their children Tina and Jeff and their home in Blue Bell, PA was filled with love and laughter. Mary Ellen and Marty moved to Gwynedd, PA briefly until their permanent relocation in 1990 to Jupiter, FL. Mary Ellen worked at the Jupiter Beach Resort for many years in the Engineering and Housekeeping departments and most recently at Florida Atlantic University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Wherever she was, Mary Ellen made friends quickly that would last a lifetime! Mary Ellen and Marty traveled the world but their favorite destination was Ireland. Mary Ellen was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed all of the traditions that went along with it. She always had time to sit down for a cup of tea and conversation. Some of her fondest memories were of spending time with her cousins telling stories at the many parties and gatherings they had over the years. Mary Ellen was a compassionate caregiver to her parents in their final years, but felt that her most important role was to make Marty’s battle with Cancer, which ultimately took his life far too soon, as pain-free and calming as possible. When Marty died Mary Ellen’s heart broke. A bright spot came when Mary Ellen became a grandmother. Whether she was called Mom-Mom or Gma, Mary Ellen was loved by her grandchildren whom she adored! Mary Ellen was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She is predeceased by both her parents and husband Marty. She is survived by her son Jeff (Joanne DiDomenico) and daughter Tina (Paul Frechette), her grandchildren Chase Bernstein, Trey Bernstein, Nicholas Bernstein, Jacqueline Frechette and Nicole Frechette, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her terribly. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Mary Ellen’s name to Jupiter Medical Center, whose doctors, nurses and staff treated both Mary Ellen and Marty with amazing care and compassion over the years. A Visitation will be held at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street, Jupiter, FL on Thursday, December 30th from 9 AM until 11 AM. Burial will be private.
