Mary Rita Devine, 76, of Tequesta, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2018, after a lengthy illness. Known as Rita to her family and close friends, she was born in Jersey City, NJ, to Rita and William Devine. The Devine family lived in Flushing, NY, and spent summers in Spring Lake at the Jersey Shore. Rita was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Manhasset, NY. She spent the early part of her working career as an executive secretary for a large advertising company in Manhattan. Rita eventually moved to Spring Lake full time in the 1970s, and became the secretary for the superintendent of the Marlboro, NJ, School System. Rita retired from that position in July 2003 after 25 years of service. Shortly thereafter, Rita moved to Tequesta, FL, where she developed many close friendships and enjoyed life in her condominium community. Rita will be remembered for her compassion to others, her sense of humor and feisty personality as well as her impeccable style. She will be very missed and forever loved by many. Rita was predeceased by her parents Rita and William Devine, and her twin brother Thomas. She is survived by her brother W. Robert Devine and wife Karen, Spring Lake, NJ, and brother Lawrence and wife Cassandra, Spring Lake Heights, NJ. Rita’s Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 26, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 204 US Highway One, Tequesta, FL 33469. Burial will be with family members near her former home in New Jersey. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Taylor and Modeen Funeral Home, Jupiter, FL.
