Margaret Ann (Peggy) Garty Sussex

March 5, 1921 - November 11, 2010

age 89, of Juno Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Peggy was the beloved wife of the late James Neil Sussex, M.D., mother of Margaret Eileen Hardin (Harry) of New Orleans, LA, MaryPat Jones of Bethesda, MD, Lorraine Sussex Rendleman of Chevy Chase, MD, and Terri Horrow (Rick) of Jupiter, FL, grandmother of Flynn Cunningham, Fletcher Jones, Hollis Rendleman, Tyler Rendleman, Harry Hardin, Katie Clark, and Caroline Horrow. Peggy had twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Patricia Pursley, of Washington State. Peggy was born in Tuxedo, NY, to the late Michael Garty and Ellen Flynn. She graduated from Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing in New York. She and her husband were married in 1943 at St. Jean the Baptist Church in New York City. Both served in the Navy during World War II. Peggy was active in the Faculty Wives groups at the University of Alabama and the University of Miami Schools of Medicine; she served as president of both organizations. She also worked at the Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. While her husband was alive, they enjoyed many international trips. She was active in the Waterford, her retirement community, where she served on several committees. She also enjoyed theater, reading, Irish music, and spending time with her family and friends. A favorite activity had been meeting a local group of former Navy nurses. Funeral services will be private.
