Linus Russell Gilbert Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Age 85, of Jupiter, FL passed away January 6, 2011 at his residence with his wife of 55 years by his side. Russ is survived by his wife, Lorene; his three children, Virginia (Mark) Echelberger, Ed Gilbert and Carolyn (Jason); four grandchildren, Gregory, Aileen, Reece and Jacob; his brother, Bill (Sue) Gilbert and many nieces and nephews. Russ was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret and granddaughter, Jessica. Russ was born in Torrington, CT where he graduated from Torrington High School in 1943. Upon graduation Russ enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1946. He attended the University of Florida where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation Russ was re-called to active duty until 1953, he stayed in the Reserves and retired in 1972 with the rank of Commander, Civil Engineer Corps, USNR. Russ and Lorene were married in 1955. In 1956 they moved to Palm Beach County where Russ worked in the County Engineers Office. From 1961-1981 he was a partner and Vice President of Hutcheon Engineers. He served as town engineer in Jupiter and worked in the Martin County Engineering Office until retirement. He was a member of American Society of Civil Engineers. A Memorial Service will be held 2PM, Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Calvary Church, 10100 W. Indiantown Road, Jupiter Farms (intersection of Jupiter Farms Road and Indiantown Road, the SW corner of the Publix shopping center). In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or the charity of your choice.
