Lewis Adin Hayward

June 22, 1947 - December 21, 2021

On December 21, 2021, surrounded by his family and the spiritual presence of all his family who could not be with him at the end, Lewis Adin Hayward of Tequesta, Florida was escorted to heaven by all of the angels who had gone before him. Lew was born June 22, 1947, in Worchester, Mass to Mary Celia Striebel Hayward and Lewis Cameron Hayward. At a very early age as Lew’s family moved around for his Dad’s work, Lew and his family lived Georgia, Tennessee and finally Alabama. Lew graduated from Foley High School in Foley, Alabama in 1965. Lew attended Auburn University where he was a member of Sigma Gamma Tau, Tau Beta Phi, Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Gamma Tau honorariums, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering in March 1970. It was at Auburn that Lew met his future wife, Sharon, on a blind date in May 1969. Lew and Sharon were married 51 years ago on July 4, 1970, in Phenix City, Alabama. After graduation, Lew moved to Singer Island, Florida and went to work for Pratt Whitney until his retirement in 2008. Lew worked on the F-22 Raptor and many other projects during his long career at Pratt Whitney. Lew went back to work at Pratt on a parttime basis until his second retirement in 2013. During Lew’s lifetime, he and Sharon were very involved in First Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach where they began attending services 3 weeks after they were married. Lew served as deacon and served on the Senior Advisory Board, The Bereavement Committee and taught rockets at the Fun Arts Camp. Lew was also a coach for JTAA in boys’ basketball, baseball, flag football, girls’ basketball and assisted in girls’ travel softball. Lew was also involved in Jupiter High School Girls’ Basketball, Softball and Band Boosters. Lew loved Auburn University, Auburn football (win or lose), his cars and always owned a fast car (Mustangs, Z28 and GTO). He and Sharon loved to travel, mostly by cruising. Most of all, he loved God, his family (near and far) and his cats, Bubba and Jenny Gump. Lew was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Cam Hayward. He leaves behind his wife, Sharon Hayward; his son, Christopher Hayward of Palm Beach Gardens; his daughter, Trisha Hayward (Heather) of Orlando; his sister, Susan Kaiser (Jimmy) of Elberta, Alabama; his in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great nephews in Florida and Alabama; friends from all of the U.S. and Mexico. Thank you to the wonderful nurses and aides at Trustbridge Hospice and Advanced Healthcare Services who took care of Lew during his final weeks. A memorial service will be held January 8, 2021, at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 717 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach, Florida. Local arrangements are being handled by Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home in Jupiter, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lew’s name may be made to First Presbyterian Church of North Palm Beach, FL @www.firstpresnpb.org; Trustbridge Hospice Foundation @www.trustbridge.com; or Furry Friends @furryfriendsadoption.org.
