Leo F. Dymicki

Leo (Baba) Dymicki, 85, of Farmington, beloved husband of Gladys (Pat) Dymicki, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 1, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 23, 1925 in Hartford, CT to Leon and Veronica Dymicki. Leo was a graduate of Hartford Public High School. Leo enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944. He served as a Seaman First Class Signalman on a landing craft off Utah Beach during WWII D-Day operations. He was honorably discharged in February 1946. Leo was an accomplished master carpenter. In early career he operated his own woodworking shop and then owned a building and remodeling business. He also worked for UTC Power Systems (which he called his semi-retirement) and fully retired in 1990. He loved building, remolding and working with his hands. One of Leo's passions in life was to travel with his wife Pat in their RV. He especially loved to spend time in Pensacola, Florida watching the Naval ships and aircraft. He attended Polka festivals all over the country. He was and avid listener of polka music and loved to dance. Most of his Sunday mornings were spent listening to his favorite Polka radio station. Besides his wife of 62 years he is survived by his daughter Gail Babbitt and her husband Scott of Manchester, his son Ronald Dymicki of Canton, his four grandchildren, Eric Babbitt and his wife Bethany of Manchester, Bonnie Gibeault and her husband Jeff of Hilo, HI. Jennifer Dymicki of San Diego, CA, and Melissa Dymicki of Stratford, CT. He had one great-grandson, Cole Babbitt. Leo is pre-deceased by his sister, Henrietta Gilbert and his daughter-in-law, Lynn A. Dymicki. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff of the UCONN Health Center's NEAG Cancer Department for their care and respect for Leo. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 5th at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT, from 4-7pm. A Christian Mass will be held on Thursday, January 6th, 10:00am at St. Patrick's Church, 110 Main St., Farmington. Burial will be private.
