Kathleen Tuohey Pitrus

Kathleen Tuohey Pitrus beloved wife of the late John Joseph Pitrus, died peacefully December 17, 2017 with her family by her side. Kaye, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Paul A. Tuohey and Mildred Scholand Tuohey. She spent her childhood in Rochester, NY and later in Syracuse and Troy, NY. She was a resident of West Hartford since 1952. A graduate of Syracuse University‘s College of Home Economics, she majored in Foods and Nutrition. She completed her dietary internship while teaching foods and nutrition to the student nurses at Albany Medical Center where she received her accreditation as a Registered Dietician. Kaye was active in this field in Upper New York State where she was Director of the Dairy Council of the Capitol District. In this capacity she spoke on radio and appeared on local television educating her audience on proper nutrition. While residing in Connecticut, she was affiliated with West Hartford schools as Director of the Food Service program. She consulted at several area nursing homes and later was the Director of Dietetics at New Britain Memorial Hospital, which is now the Hospital for Special Care. Kaye was a former member of the American Dietetic Association, Town and Country Club, Hartford Golf Club, Spice Bush Garden Club, a charter member of St. Peter Claver Church and the Church of St. Timothy. Kaye loved the games of golf and bridge and cherished the ladies golf and duplicate bridge group at the Hartford Golf Club. She leaves her three children and their spouses Kati Ballantyne, and spouse Rigg of Yardley, PA, Gretchen Dinucci and spouse Robert of West Hartford, CT, John Joseph Pitrus. Jr. and spouse Kandi, of Medfield, MA, a brother Paul Richard Tuohey and sister-in-law Joanne, of Manhasset NY, sister-in-law Anna P. Hanko of Wethersfield, CT and six grandsons, twins Spencer and Tucker Ballantyne, Robert Tyler Dinucci, John Clay Dinucci, Conor Tuohey Pitrus, Ryan Everitt Pitrus and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Arden Court in Avon, CT for their kindness, support and loving care of Kaye. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Peter Claver, 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. There are no calling hours. Friends are asked to proceed directly to church Friday morning.
