John Lowell John Lowell died peacefully at home on November 22, 2011 in Juno Beach, Florida after a long illness. A beloved husband of Eleanor T. Lowell and father of Jack Lowell and wife Natasha, Charlotte Allan, Molly Lowell and husband Rich Duvall, William Lowell and wife Angela and Ellie Lowell. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Ralph Lowell and Jim Lowell, and sisters Emelen Wheeler and Lucy Grimm. John was born in Westwood, Massachusetts on September 3, 1919. He attended Noble & Greenough School and graduated from Harvard College in 1942, where he was a member of the Naval ROTC. John was a US Navy War Veteran and served on a naval destroyer in World War ll. He was a banker for 25 years and a partner at Welch and Forbes for 35 years. John was the Nahant Town Moderator for 27 years, a 33rd Degree Mason, and a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. He was the Trustee of the Lowell Institute and served on the Board of Trustees of Boston College, Perkins School for the Blind, The Museum of Science, Northeastern University, Wheelock College and numerous other Civic and Charitable Organizations in Boston. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of WGBH, which was founded by his father Ralph Lowell and as a Trustee of the Public Broadcasting System. John was a member of the Harvard Club of Boston and The Union Club of Boston. A Memorial Service will be held in the spring in Nahant, Massachusetts.
