James R. Brainerd, age 84, died on June 17, 2012 at his home in Jupiter, Florida. His first wife, Margaret, and his second wife, Sally, sisters, Suzanne B, Volkman and Mary R. Ewing, predeceased him. Surviving him are his sons, James R. Brainerd, Jr. and Len Coyne, and his daughters Joanne (Jodi) Jones and Marcy Coyne, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a brother, and two sisters. Mr. Brainerd was a member of American Legion Post 271. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Following discharge, he took a position in the Public Relations department of Pratt & Whitney Aricraft in East Hartford, Connecticut. After five years he left P & W to become the director of Alumni Relations for his Alma Mater, Trinity College in Hartford. He later rejoined P & W and, in 1983, transferred to the company's Florida operations, retiring in 1993. He then accepted a job as a deliveryman for Jupiter Drugs and Medical Supplies, which position he held until 2011. At Mr. Brainerd's request, there will be no service.
