Grace C. Lewis

November 5, 1923 - October 6, 2014

While we are incredibly saddened, it is with great joy that we celebrate the life of our mother Grace Cecelia Lewis who passed away just before her 91st birthday on Monday evening, October 6, 2014, after a number of years struggling with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her children, Jim Lewis, Jeanette Gentile (George), Bridgett Carpenter (Jimmy), Chrispy Selig (Dave), Judy Towne (Don), Sara Mazzola (Ed), and Casey Lewis. She also leaves her two sisters, Sara Krezman and Catherine Durkin Houran, her cherished grandchildren, Jamie Gentile, Jonathan Gentile, Jody Gentile, Shayla Bonoit, Lydee Bonoit, Adam Lewis, Megan Raucci, Mary Kate Bedard, Samantha Towne, Casey Towne, Grant Sikes, Alyssa Ramos, Nick Lewis, Chelsea Lewis and her adored great-grandchildren, Addison, Campbell, Owen, Trey, Leilani, Liam, Kaiya, Nora, Jensen, Max, and Henry who will join us all soon. Grace worked for almost 60 years, primarily as a Registered Nurse, juggling her career with raising seven children. As an RN she served our community here in Palm Beach County as a labor and delivery room nurse at St. Mary's and Good Samaritan hospitals. She also worked as an industrial nurse for RCA and then the Town of Palm Beach. Everywhere she went she made lifelong friends. For a time in the 1970s Grace also was employed by the Palm Beach County Health Department bringing her incredible compassion and care to her fellow citizens, young and old, in the City of Riviera Beach. Near the end of a long career Grace worked a time as a private duty nurse and then for the State of Florida's Children's Medical Services where she provided care to profoundly ill children, and loving under-standing to their parents and guardians. While all that would be enough to fill two lifetimes, Grace was also an amazing Mom, friend, entertainer, comedienne and poet; she championed the downtrodden and praised the Lord, we know she'll be the life of the party as she travels through Paradise. Visitation with the family is at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street, Jupiter FL 33458 from 5 PM to 7 PM with prayer service at 6:30 PM, October 17, 2014. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul of the Cross Church 10970 SR A-1-A, North Palm Beach, FL 33408 at 10:00 AM, October 18, 2014. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to either Vitas or the American Brain Tumor Assoc. abta.org. Being kind to a stranger or helping a neighbor will help our family know the true nature of Grace's life too.
