George Alexander McNeill

George Alexander McNeill born on November 14, 1929, passed away on August 20, 2016. He is survived by his partner in life and loving wife of 64 years, Margaret McNeill. He is also survived by four children: daughter Jan McNeill (husband Frank Griffin), son J Cameron McNeill, daughter Laurie Lee (husband Doug Lee), and daughter Kathryn Matlack (husband Duncan Matlack). His grandchildren include: Jamie Griffin Goeres (husband Bryson Goeres), John Griffin (wife Veronica Valero Griffin) and Abigail Matlack, and Elliot Matlack. George lived a full and energetic life right until the very end. Affectionately known as the "energizer bunny", he loved the outdoor sports of hunting, fishing, wind surfing, scuba diving, water and snow skiing, and especially tennis. He imparted this love to his family and many family vacations spent doing these activities. George spent his first 32 years in Canada. Born in Calgary Alberta Canada, he grew up in Edmonton Alberta. He attended his beloved University of Alberta and earned a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. In high school, he met the love of his life Margaret. He later proposed to her at the top of a snowy ski hill and they were married September 20, 1952. George worked 10 years in Canada and then sought more challenge and opportunity by emigrating with his family to the US. He then worked for Monsanto Chemical in Alvin Texas and Springfield Mass. In 1972, George and Margaret became the proud owners of the Riverdale Gardens Nursing Home in West Springfield MA. They sold their business in 1988 and retired, spending their winters in Jupiter FL and summers in East Otis in the Massachusetts Berkshires. George continued to stay very active in business. He and his son Cameron became partners in owning an apartment complex in Houston TX. George also expanded his apartment property ownership via multiple facilities across the US. He loved the analysis, development, and improvement phases. George was known for his philanthropy and community service. He belonged to both the Jupiter FL and West Springfield MA Rotary Clubs. He spent many a day helping on Rotary Club projects - especially the Jupiter/Tequesta boy scout camp. He and his wife Margaret encouraged their children and grandchildren to become involved in and give back to their communities. George and Margaret spent 67 happy years dancing, fishing, traveling, and laughing through life with their family and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents George and Alice McNeill , mother Nora McNeill, and his grandson Robert Griffin. Margaret and her family extend their deepest appreciation to the doctors and staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for their compassionate care that George received during the last couple of years of his life. A memorial service in Massachusetts will be held on Sunday September 18 at 2:00pm at The White Church ,4 North St., Blandford, MA. Immediately following, a reception celebrating his life will be held at the Blandford Club at 17 North Street, Blandford. A second memorial service will be held in Florida on Friday November 4 at 4pm at Jupiter First Church at 1475 Indian Creek Pkwy, Jupiter. A reception celebrating his life will be held afterwards at the church. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests memorial contributions in George's honor/memory be made to "The Blandford Club" a nonprofit which can be sent to 17 North Street, Blandford, MA 01008, or a charity of your choice.
