January 18, 1927 - January 18, 2022
Carmelo Gagliardi, 94 of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on January 18, 2022, after a long and fulfilled life. He was born in Pedivigliano, Calabria, Italy on July 7, 1927, the son of Ettore and Francesca (Palone) Gagliardi. Carmelo had an eye for style and fashion. He was a tailor by profession, having started as an apprentice at the age of 9 years old in his home village. After serving in the Italian Army, Carmelo immigrated from Italy as a young man with just 20 dollars in his pocket and a cardboard suitcase full of clothes. He was the proprietor of Carmen’s Economy Tailor Shop in West Hartford, Connecticut for almost 25 years prior to moving to Florida, where he finished his career serving as Bloomingdales’ tailor in Palm Beach Gardens. Carmelo and his wife, Ninna, will forever be remembered as the Patriarch and the Matriarch of Woodwind Street. Their home was always open to friends and neighbors, whom they considered family. It was common and expected that someone would drop in for conversation, laughs, sometimes tears, but always an espresso, cappuccino, or sip of home brewed limoncello, otherwise known as “Carmelo-Cello.” Carmelo was proceeded in this life by his wife of 60 years Ninna (Miano) Gagliardi, Daughter Cynthia “Cinzia” DeConti, Brothers Felice and Paolo Gagliardi, sister Palmina Perri, and brother in law Carmelo Costanzo. He leaves behind a sister, Maria Costanzo, Son Richard Ettore Gagliardi, and Daughter in Law Lisa (Brown) Gagliardi, Granddaughters Jaclyn and husband Brett Johnson, Kaelyn and husband Hunter Buck, Jill DeConti, Alexis Gagliardi, Grandson Ricky Gagliardi, and two beautiful great grandchildren Madison and Carson Buck. Additionally, he leaves in-laws Ruggero Perri, Paula Gagliardi, Joseph and Natalina Miano, Joseph and Lucy Scerrato, many nieces and nephews, and a special Goddaughter Geraldine (Grimaldi) Service who provided unselfish love and encouragement his last years. Funeral services will be held at Mary, Our Mother Of The Light Maronite Catholic Church, 46 Willow Road, Tequesta, on Tuesday January 25th, at 12:00pm. Burial will be at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain, Connecticut, on Saturday January 29th, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making a donation to The Blessing Projects. www.TheBlessingProject.org Mailing Address: The Blessing Projects* Attn: Rudolph Atallah One Central Street Moran, WY 83013 *Contributions will be used to continue building 2 farms used to feed oppressed Christian families in Lebanon.
