BABETTE MOLLER COLLINS December 13, 1910--July 8, 2011 Babs Collins died Friday after a very brief illness. She was 100 years old and told her children that she had led a very full life and was ready to go. For 24 years she was a special education teacher at Branch Brook School in Newark, New Jersey, with a gift for working with physically disabled youngsters from diverse backgrounds. She loved jazz and big band music, ballet, baseball, good food, simple elegant fashion, and parties. She took extraordinary care of her husband, Bill Collins, during the long up-and-down illnesses he suffered before his death in 2004. She did more than accept people for who they were—she celebrated them. She also had a very committed (and largely hidden) spiritual life, which sustained her through many losses—including the losses that come with advanced age, which she never complained about. She lived independently until the age of 100, and her clarity of mind, sense of humor, and loving appreciation for her friends and family never left her. A memorial Mass will be celebrated for her on Monday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul of the Cross Church, North Palm Beach, Florida. She will be buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair, New Jersey. She is survived by her son Brendan Collins and his wife, Gail Sher, of Berkeley, CA; her son Paul Collins and his wife Joan, of Winter Park, FL; her daughter, Babette Degnan Atz and her husband, Marc, of Westport, NY; three grandchildren, and one great grandson. She is also survived her sister, Rosanna Adams of Cary, NC, and her brothers, Richard Moller and his wife Betty of Denver, PA, and Robert Moller of Washington, DC.
