NICKLER, ARTHUR L. 8-25-1927 – 11-4-2018 Arthur L. Nickler, a resident of Jupiter, Florida, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 in the VA Hospital in W Palm Beach. He had a amazingly normal life in a wheelchair for 73 years. Born in Elkhart, IN, he joined the Army at 17; within months suffered an injury that left him paralyzed. His passion was to find out what he could do and avoid dwelling on what he could not. He modified and designed hand controls to drive. His career was in accounting. He was business owner; and, worked for Del Rey Mfg. in Elkhart. He loved boating and fishing on Lake Michigan and the Florida Keys. He spent 5 years as a Missionary in Nigeria for the Church of the Brethren as an account/administrator. His exceptional work touched so many while in a wheelchair! As a member of First Presbyterian Church in N. Palm Beach, Art served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons; Chairman/Elder of the Missions Committee. He was a Stephen Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of J.A.Y. Ministries. He is predeceased by his parents, Zelma and Loyal Nickler; his siblings, Naomi, Harold and Betty; his first wife, Hildegard (Hildy). He is survived by: his beloved wife, Barbara, his daughter Cindy, husband Rick Oxford; grandsons, Michael and Christopher Alwood; 4 great granddaughters, Brianna, Lexie, Maya and Ava Alwood; a sister Doris Hostetler; many nieces, nephews and friends. A viewing will take place on Nov. 15th, 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Taylor & Modeen, 250 Center St., Jupiter. On Nov 16th, burial will be at 11:00am at S. Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth. A escort caravan will leave from the First Presbyterian Church promptly at 10am. Burial is prior to the 3pm church service due to church renovation/cemetery restrictions. A Memorial Service will be held at 3pm, Nov. 16th at First Presbyterian Church, 717 Prosperity Farms Rd, N. Palm Beach in the Fellowship Hall. Reception following. Arthur's positive never give up attitude and his wonderful sense of humor enabled him to have many wonderful experiences in life. He will be dearly missed by his loving family, friends, and a beacon of light to everyone who knew him. Donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
