Albert L. Dakers

Albert L. Dakers long-time resident of Farmington, passed away on August 29, 2012. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 3, 1924 to Albert and Janet Dakers, Albert came to the United States at age two. He remained proud of his Scottish heritage all of his life. He grew up in Hartford, leaving to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II and returning to marry the love of his life, Beverly, on April 15, 1950. They were married for 45 years at the time of Beverly's passing in 1995. In 1955, Albert and Beverly, moved to Farmington. Albert moved to Glastonbury in 2009. Albert, like Beverly, attended St. Paul's Methodist Church on Park Street in Hartford during his youth. They joined the Memorial United Methodist Church in Unionville-Avon in 1955, where both remained members until their deaths. After working at Chandler-Evans, Albert worked for the Connecticut Natural Gas Company as an accountant for over 35 years. Albert was active in his community, serving in Farmington as a selectman, a member of the Housing Authority and a long-time Chairman of the 2nd District Republican Town Committee. He also coached youth baseball and assisted with Junior Achievement in New Britain. Albert and Beverly were avid square dancers and were members of Connecticut Valley Squares for 30 years. Albert is survived by his daughter, Sandra, and her husband, Arnold, of West Hartford, and his son, Robert, and his wife, Julia, of Glastonbury. He was the proud grandfather of William, Sara, Allison, Melissa, Elissa and Cecilia. He was predeceased by his parents and in-laws, Henry and Claire Stone, as well as by a sister, Virginia, and a sister-in-law and her husband, Marjorie and Richard Murphy. He is survived by a brother, Donald, and his wife, Jane, as well as by many wonderful nieces and nephews. Albert was a devoted and loving son, husband and father and a loyal and enjoyable employee, friend and member of the community. He loved to travel and was proud of all the places he had been through his service in the Navy and on trips with friends Hayden and Marge Loveland and so many others. He will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and fun. Most of all, Albert and Beverly had the gift of finding contentment and joy in life's simple pleasures, including walking the sandflats at Great Hammock Beach in Old Saybrook, square dancing, working around the house and in all the times spent in conversation and fellowship with family and their many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Memorial United Methodist Church on 867 West Avon Road in Avon, CT. A reception will follow.
