Patrick M. Kenny Esq.

Patrick M. Kenny, Esq., passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, the son of a NYC police officer, and raised by his two aunts in Queens, he was a proud graduate of both Fordham University and Fordham Law School (with a stint at Harvard). A fine athlete, he proved good enough to play both semi-pro football and baseball in and around NYC. After serving in the Army, he ventured into the work world, beginning his career at the Federal Trade Commission. He then moved on to become lead counsel for Merrill Lynch’s anti-trust division at One Liberty Plaza (adjacent to the World Trade Center). It was around this time that, on a blind date in 1966, he met the love of his life, Janet Waltz. They married in 1967, lived in Jamaica, Queens, and decided to start a family. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Long Island to a modest home on Meadbrook Road in Garden City. That was the initial home of the first four of their five children (until 1977 when Katherine was born). Needing a slightly bigger house, they moved across town to Whitehall Boulevard until 1984. Pat was then transferred to Merrill’s financial division in Newark, so he made the difficult decision to move to Chatham, NJ, where the family, in varying degrees, stayed until 2000. He and Janet later retired to Jupiter, Florida, to enjoy more full-time golf, the chance to host their children, and dote on their nine grandchildren who lovingly called him “Papa” (Carleigh, Paige, Patrick, Sean, Jackson, Carter, Maura, Emmett, and Evelyn). Not one to shy away from a wager or two, one could find him engaged in a stern $20 nassau on the golf course (Garden City Country Club, Canoe Brook Country Club, Jonathan’s Landing, and Pine Tree Golf Club). In his lifetime, he had FIVE holes in one! He never turned down a challenging gin rummy game, a sure-thing daily double at the track, and/or all of the above (often all in a single day!). Pat was a man of many passions: a voracious reader – the man read three major newspapers cover to cover every day; he a connoisseur of history, politics, and old movies; and, as his children know all too well…he was an aspiring opera singer! Pat was a man entrenched in his faith (although he had a tendency to sleep through homilies), fighting the good fight with grace, integrity, and depth of spirit. He is preceded by his wife of 48 years, Janet. Pat is survived by his children, Thomas (Samantha), Kevin, Peter (Brooks), Christopher (Hannah), and Katherine (Alistair). As he walks the fairways of heaven, holding Mom’s hand, he is (and always was) confident in God’s plan for all of his 90 years.
