Noreen Spencer Coughlan

Noreen Spencer Coughlan May 24th, 1929 - July 2nd, 2018 May flights of angels guide you to heaven. Noreen Coughlan, formerly of Hartford, Connecticut and Laguna Beach, California passed away at Martin Memorial South in Stuart Florida. She was 89 years old. After moving to California in 1971 she was employed as a telecommunications operator. She was born in Hartford, CT in 1929 to Kathleen McKenna Spencer and Robert Richard Spencer, a vaudevillian who played the famous Orpheum circuit. No doubt this is where she inherited her love of theater and dancing. As a young mother, her dancing talents were used as an Arthur Murray dance teacher, where she met her second husband, Edward May of Newington. Upon moving to Laguna Beach, CA., where she volunteered at the Laguna Playhouse, she was introduced to actor, Frank Coughlan. They married in 1985 and remained there until retiring in. After retiring, Noreen and Frank moved to Stuart, Florida where both continued to entertain from Frank’s Evening with Mark Twain to both lending their singing talents to the annual WICS (Women in Community Service) Variety shows in Jupiter. Noreen was also a volunteer at the Blake Library in Stuart. Noreen is survived by her children, Peter Samuelson, (Ronda) of Mission Viejo, California, Michael May, (Heidi), of Vernon Connecticut; Susan May of Stuart Florida and Melissa May (John) of San Francisco, California plus two grandchildren Anne Elizabeth (Daniel) Renzi and Geoffrey May. Predeceased by older brother Robert Spencer. In addition, Noreen has cousins within the area who will miss her. Nora Leibold (Art) Tequesta, Florida; Jan Davisson (Paul) of Jupiter and Kerry Wells of Tequesta. Numerous second cousins from the family of recently deceased Bill(Ann) Taylor of Tequesta. Noreen will be missed for her charm, quiet personality, grace and quirky sense of humor. Calling hours are Monday, July 9th 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center St., Jupiter Florida. Interment at the National cemetery will be held immediately following the memorial service.
