Katie R. Phillips

Katie R. Phillips went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 22, 2023, at age 91 in Jupiter, Florida. Katie leaves behind her loving husband, David Phillips, her three children Sandra Robinson (Phil) of Stuart, Florida, John Rodenhizer of Mountain City, Tennessee, and Carol Hamilton (Trevor) of Chicago, Illinois, and grandchildren Melanie Lewis (Mike) of Stonington, Connecticut, Philip Austin (Aracelly) of West Palm Beach, Florida, Aaron Austin of Pompano Beach, Florida, three great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, sisters, Marie Godwin of Durhan North Carolina and Debbie Beeman of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, sister-in-law Louise Riggsbee Beck of Little River, South Carolina, brother Virgil Riggsbee of Pittsborough, North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, Dalton Riggsbee, grandson, John Rodenhizer Jr., and nephew Richard Riggsbee. Katie was born in Wake County, North Carolina and grew up on her parents’ tobacco farm. She married Frank Rodenhizer in 1948. Sandra was born in 1949 and John in 1954. In 1955 Katie moved with her family to Riviera Beach, Florida and later to Lake Park, Florida where Frank worked in the construction industry. Frank died in 1967. Katie married David Phillips in 1968. Their daughter, Carol, was born in 1969. Katie worked outside the home until Carol was born. She then worked a few years after Carol started school. Katie also helped David in their machine shop business from 1972 to 1982. Katie valued her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother. She treasured her life-long friends and those she met later in life. She was kind, generous and caring. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir and making beautiful clothes. A Godly and wise woman, she served as a positive influence on those around her. Katie was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed. Katie will be entombed at Riverside Memorial Park in Jupiter, Florida following a private graveside service on Monday, September 25, 2023.
