Eric Guy de Spirlet

Enjoying 95 years of love, family and adventures, Eric Guy de Spirlet of Jupiter, Florida, husband of Linda Dodd de Spirlet, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Liege, Belgium, May 1929, he was one of six children, son of the late Baron Andre and Eugenie de Spirlet. Growing up in Belgium, he married Francoise Hertoghe in 1954, moved to New York where he began his career. They raised their 4 children, Ginette, Marie, Diane, and Andre in Bronxville, NY and Stratton, VT. Summers were spent travelling to Belgium visiting both sides of the family. Eric started his career in the shipping industry with the Compagnie Maritime Belge at 25 years young. He rose to be President of the newly formed Atlantic Overseas Corporation. He was also president of the Belgian Benevolent Society and the Belgian Chamber of Commerce where Eric was honored by the King of Belgium for his years of devoted service to his native country. One of his proudest moments was becoming a US citizen in April 2015. In 1989, He married Linda Dodd and was blessed with 2 step-children, Andrea and Kevin Dodd. Eric was very much a father to both Andrea and Kevin and grandfather to 4 step-grandchildren. Eric was an avid skier. He built a family vacation home in Stratton, Vermont in 1969. He was known as “The Count” always wearing his red ski jacket and casquette. Many times, he was the first on the chairlift for fresh tracks- especially on New Year’s Day. Eric was an avid golfer, a “Hero” to many, as he continued to play well almost to the end, always hitting straight down the middle of the fairway. He joined St. Andrew’s, then Siwanoy, and in 1996 joined Jonathan’s Landing and made it their home Eric de Spirlet, The Count and The Hero, lived a very full life. Family and friends are truly blessed with Eric’s strength, determination, guidance, and love. Eric will continue to live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Linda, and his four children, Ginette McCloskey (Joseph), Marie Beebe (Bradford), Diane de Spirlet (Barry Cline), and Andre de Spirlet; his grandchildren, Timothy McCloskey (deceased), Brian McCloskey (Tony Guerrera), Paul McCloskey (Kara), John McCloskey (Amanda), Alayna Beebe-Richard (Olivier Richard), Alexander Beebe, Chandler de Spirlet (MacKenzie), Hansen de Spirlet, and Sage de Spirlet; his great-grandchildren, Charles and Isabella McCloskey and Margaret McCloskey; children of Linda Dodd de Spirlet: Andrea Warble (deceased) and Kevin Dodd (Allison); his step-grandchildren, Keenan, Reilly and Casey Warble, and Tomas West. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday 1/11/25 at 11:00AM at St. Christopher Church, 12001 SE Federal Hwy, Hobe Sound, FL, 33455. A reception will follow at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club, 16823 Captain Kirle Drive, Jupiter, FL, 33477. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Jupiter Medical Center Foundation,1210 S. Old Dixie Hwy, Jupiter, FL, 33458.
