Elizabeth Harman Clarke

Elizabeth Jane Harman Clarke, 91, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, died Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Trustbridge Hospice in the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. Born September 28, 1930, in Westminster, MD, she was preceded in death by her parents Elsie Barnes Harman and Samuel Frank Harman, as well as two sisters, Margaret Aldridge and Sister Mary Louise Samuelle Harman; a brother, Frank Harman, and a beloved son, Michael Clarke. She is survived by her husband of seventy-two years, Charles M. Clarke; a daughter Deborah Clarke and her husband Donald Warfield of Woodbine, MD; a son Thomas Clarke and his wife Beth of Palm Beach Gardens; a daughter Terry Murphy and her husband Charles of Southbury, CT. She was the loving grandmother to four granddaughters: Kelly Clarke Snyder and husband Michael, Robin Ridgway Anglin and husband Sean, Kara Clarke and wife Jennifer, and Olivia Coseo Mansfield and husband Thomas. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Gracen, Palmer, Sydney, Cora, Charlotte, Bowen, and Max. Betty, as she was known by family and friends, graduated from St. John School in Westminster, MD, in 1948. Married in 1949, she then devoted herself to making a home for her growing family. In their quest for broader horizons for themselves and their children, in 1964, she and her husband said good-bye to Maryland and moved to Plantation, FL. Enjoying all the perks of life in sunny South Florida, she continued to manage her children’s active lives becoming everybody’s favorite mom. With several incursions into the working world, she always returned to homemaking, the profession she knew best. Creative by nature, she enjoyed all kinds of crafts from decoupage to fabric arts to card making. She delighted in creating, as well as shopping for, just the right gifts for the people she loved. With a sharp wit, a lively sense of humor, and a feisty personality, she loved to laugh and engage in conversation. Betty will always be remembered as a devoted wife, a dedicated mom and grandmom, a loyal friend, and a diligent homemaker. Interment will be private and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
