Bernice Walker

Edith Bernice Penninger Walker, 88, of Concord, NC peacefully passed away in the loving care of her family and Hospice on Friday May 22, 2015 in Jupiter, Florida. Her funeral will be conducted 11 am on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Roberta United Methodist Church in Concord, receiving family and friends at Wilkinson Funeral Home on Thursday night May 28, 2015 6 to 8 pm. Bernice was born June 16, 1926, at the family home in Concord. She was the daughter of the late Hall Gamewell Penninger and Martha Miller Penninger. She is preceded in the death by her husband, the dashing US Marine, Baxter Robert Walker, who died January 11, 2004. She is survived by daughters Ronda Walker and her husband, Tom Kenna of Incline Village, NV and Darla Walker Natole and her husband, Tim Natole of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She was a graduate of Harrisburg High School. Bernice was an active member of every church she ever attended making them the center of her family's life. She lived for years in Concord, Knoxville, Charlotte, Oak Island, NC and happily returned home to Concord in 2001. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, arts and crafts. Her greatest achievement in life was not the jobs she held, the schooling she accomplished, the places she avidly traveled with her family but the people she loved and those who loved her. There was simply nothing more important to Bernice Walker... Except her faith in God. She is predeceased by beloved brothers and sister-in-law John Robert Penninger, Sr. and Ada Penninger and J. Norman Penninger. Bernice is survived by her sister Jewel Penninger Collins of Concord and her brother and sister-in-law H.G. Penninger, Jr. and Helen Penninger of High Point N.C. She loved, adored and respected her nieces and nephews: Susan Penninger Horne, Sheila Penninger Brown, Adele Penninger Lozito, Dana Kluttz Nance, Brenda Penninger Phillips, Cynthia Penninger Hendren (deceased) John Robert "Bobby" Penninger, Jr., Shelley Nichols, Gerald Penninger, Windoll Walker Gardner, James "Jimmy" Walker, Bobby Walker (deceased) Andy Walker, Lance Hegler, Larry Hegler (deceased) Patricia Hegler Shires and Pricilla Hegler Melchor. She loved her precious great nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Roberta United Methodist Church or Jeff Gordon's Children's Hospital both of Concord, NC.
