Artis Lee Pittman

Artis Lee Pittman was born to the late Richard J. and Mattie Lee Pittman in Lockhart, Alabama on June 21, 1933. Artis was educated in the Colbert and Palm Beach County Schools. As a young boy he traveled on the train to West Palm Beach where he later met and married the late Doris Baxter Pittman. In 1959, they built a home in the Jupiter area and to their union raised two sons, Artis Lee Pittman, Jr. and Horace Pittman and three daughters Shirley Temple Nelson, Gala Pittman, and Candace Pittman. Artis worked tirelessly for more than thirty years for the Mannion Patio & Stones in West Palm Beach as a Precaster. Understanding the intricacies of golf, he became a golf caddy for well-known Palm Beach golfers. When he was not hard at work, Artis enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and baseball. His favorite football team is the Miami Dolphins. He was active in his community volunteering with the Palm Beach County Sheriff Office with Citizens on Patrol (COP) where he helped to keep his neighborhood safe. Artis loved all his brothers and shared a special bond with his brother Charles; working on the same job together, raising their families next door to each other and sharing a daily cup of coffee with each other. When you saw Artis, you always saw Charles and Herbert Leach. They were not just brothers but truly best friends for life. Artis was a member of the Mt. Carmel MB Church in Jupiter where he served as an usher and sang in the Men’s Choir. His favorite songs are “Since the Lord Changed This Heart of Mine” and “Try Jesus!” His favorite scripture is John 13:34 “Love one another; as I have loved you…” On December 23, 2023, Artis went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wives, Doris and Ruby, Father Richard J. Pittman, Mother Mattie Lee Pittman, and brother Willie Frank Pittman. He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Artis Lee Pittman, Jr., (Carolyn) of Enterprise, AL, Horace (Skip) Pittman, (Joanne) of Panama City, FL, three daughters Shirley Temple Nelson, St. Louis, MO, Gala Pittman, of Houston, TX and Candace Pittman of Jupiter, FL, three grandchildren Brian Nelson, Kimberly Temple, Kelli Scott, five great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, sisters Levonne Simmons, Georgia Mae Williams and Imogene Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. A funeral service will be held on January 6, 2023 at 11 AM. at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street, Jupiter, FL. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:30 am.
