Albert George Pappas

Albert George Pappas, 70 of Hobe Sound, FL, passed away peacefully with family at his side, on Sunday April 28, 2024. Al was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Albro Kurtz, his father James Pappas Jr, and his brother James Pappas. Al was born on July 7, 1953 in Queens NY and he raised his family in Staten Island NY. Al spent most of his career working for NY City Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridges. In 2016, he retired from his position as NYC DOT Bridge Painter Supervisor and moved to Hobe Sound Florida to fully enjoy his retirement. Al is survived by his wife of 21 years, Anna Nigido; his daughter Kristen Pappas of Jersey City NJ, her husband Michael Hefferon and their children Ellie Rose and Michael John Jr.; his daughter Allison Pappas and her children Elizabeth and Madelyn of Matawan, NJ; his brother Victor Pappas and his wife Luann of Grafton Wisconsin; and his nieces and nephews. Al’s daughters and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Al talked to them almost every day, and he was happiest when he knew they were content, successful and living their best lives! Al was an active member of several support groups where he developed many long-lasting friendships and was always available to help members in need. Al’s favorite group was Matt Talbot’s Retreat Group 88. For more than a decade, Al was devoted to his Retreat Brothers and to helping them organize meaningful retreats for their members. In between retreats, they enjoyed many ROMEO lunches together! Al was an avid fisherman and a phenomenal cook! He took great joy in cooking for his family and friends, especially at the holidays and at his annual barbecue. Since retirement, Al loved living in Florida. He was happiest tending to his house, and his plants and enjoying the birds and nature surrounding his home. He often said how blessed he was to have this beautiful life. Al was sometimes larger than life; it’s difficult to imagine life in his absence. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him, and we will miss him more than words can say. We will be in touch with friends and family as soon as we plan a beautiful Celebration of Al’s life. It will be held in New Jersey and we look forward to family and friends joining with us to remember him well!
