Vaughn R. Leonard

VAUGHN R. LEONARD Vaughn Richard Leonard, an exemplary and devoted husband, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, passed from this world on March 1, 2023, at age 76, in Jupiter, Florida. Vaughn was born on June 7, 1946 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of Clayton and Elizabeth (Stearns) Leonard. He was predeceased by his brother, Garrett P. Leonard, in 2007. With a BS in Engineering from the Central New England College of Technology, and an MBA from Clark University, Vaughn enjoyed a solid career in sales for Tyco International, New England. On September 18, 2004, he married Eileen Jeanne Karl, the love of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Eileen Leonard; Richard Cavan of Los Angeles; Michael and Lesley Hlatki of Boca Raton; and his grandchildren: Robbie Hlatki, Danielle Hlatki, and Julia Hlatki. A loving grandfather, Vaughn spent many afternoons teaching Robbie how to play golf. When off the links, he always loved attending Danielle’s and Julia’s musical concerts and sporting competitions. An avid and dedicated golfer, Vaughn played on many courses, but was most thrilled to join his friend, Rick Hagberg, and others, on the course at St. Andrews in Scotland. He loved relaxing on the beach in Montauk with Eileen, and watching classic film noir with her, especially movies starring Broderick Crawford or Humphrey Bogart. Every time Eileen had a birthday, Vaughn made an event of it: an elaborately planned “mystery date” at a secret location as elegant and romantic as he was. Though Vaughn sampled exotic cuisine while traveling the world with Eileen—to destinations including Montreux, Switzerland; Munich, Germany; Costa Rica, Israel, the Bahamas, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean—his favorite dish was a home-cooked meal of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and gravy. No vegetables, please. He was an ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was a gentleman of the old school. Perfect manners. A spectacular dresser. Chivalrous. A great listener. He brought so much happiness to all of us. No one who met him could help but love him. A wake will be held on Thursday, March 9, from 7 PM to 9 PM with a Prayer Service at 8 PM, at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center Street, Jupiter, Florida 33458. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10, at 10 AM, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 204 N. US Highway One, Tequesta, Florida 33469. A graveside ceremony will follow at 12 noon at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, 10941 Southern Boulevard, Royal Palm Beach, Florida, 33411.
