Sally Williams

Sally Williams (Fuller) of West Harford, 81, died on March 27, 2018, surrounded by much of her family. She was a woman with many loves. Above all, she loved her family. She is survived by her husband William Fuller, children Mark Williams, Laura Williams, Susan and Gary Henneberry, Tim and Lucy Williams, Maryellen Duffy, and a sister in law Gayle Welling. Her grandchildren include Chad, Molly, Valentina, Haley, Madeline, Joe, Logan, Jenny, and Geoff. She loved learning. Her degrees include a BA from DePauw University (Delta Gamma Sorority), an MEd from University of Hartford, a CAGS at Wesleyan University, a MDiv from Hartford Seminary, and a EdD from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She enjoyed an active role in the Presidents’ College at the University of Hartford, and she supported higher education for her children and grandchildren. Sally felt blessed to have had two careers she loved. Her work in museums took her from the Honolulu Academy of Arts to the Wadsworth Athenaeum to the Noah Webster House, where she served as director. Leaving the world of objects for the world of people, she became a hospital chaplain and served at Hartford Hospital for more than a decade, until her retirement. Her involvement with the hospital continued as a volunteer and at the time of her death she had given thousands of hours, primarily in the emergency department and as a Reiki Master. She was a Hospice volunteer for many years as well as serving as a Friendly Visitor for the VNA and the Town of West Hartford. She volunteered joyful hours in helping a Syrian refugee family relocate to Connecticut. She loved music in many forms, from opera to zydeco, and she and her husband kept a busy schedule of concerts, theatre, and dance. They enjoyed travel, camping in the Serengeti, and floating down the Amazon. She read constantly in both French and English. She loved her garden, and she took pride in preserving enough vegetables to last throughout the winter. Her heart belonged to her many pets. She is survived by cats Rockefeller, Fred, and Me Too. Lesser known facts about Sally include the motorcycle endorsement on her license, the yarn she spun out of dog hair and knitted into sweaters, and the fact that she got the very first tattoo in the family, breaking the seal on the forbidden ink. Her ashes will be scattered in the waters off Hawaii, the place she loved best in all the world. She will be home at last. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Hartford Hospital for Sally’s care. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at Flagg Road United Church of Christ (134 Flagg Road) in West Hartford, with a reception at 4 p.m. and Service at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018.
