Mary Louise Ryan

Mary Louise (Griffin) Ryan formerly of West Hartford, Wethersfield and (Middlewoods) Farmington, Connecticut died on March 27, 2012 amongst her family. She was born August 6, 1928 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Daughter of the late F. Everard and Antonetta J. (Cardella) Griffin. Following graduation from Leland Powers School of Radio & Theater, Boston Massachusetts she was employed as an investigative reporter by the Lawrence Eagle Tribune, later transferring to the Creative Copy Department of the paper's 50,000 watt ABC affiliate, WLAW Radio. She later relocated to CT to head up the Creative copy Department of WCCC located in the Hotel Bond, Hartford. She retired in 1986 after 24 years of service as Administrator of the Group Evidence, Medical Underwriting Department of Aetna Life and Casualty. She was a 35 year resident of West Hartford moving to Wethersfield in 1983. She enjoyed her retirement years volunteering for the Wethersfield Historical Society and other charitable organizations. She was predeceased by her husband Jay W. Ryan. She is survived by her children of whom she was most proud. Michael and his wife Christine (Marcia) Ryan of West Hartford, Gigi Ryan Philion and her husband John Philion both of Granby, and David Ryan of Farmington as well as delightful granddaughters Kirsten (Ryan) Cahill and husband Brenden Cahill and Great Granddaughter Mackenzie and Kelly Ryan of Old Saybrook.Survivors also include Louis O. Winkler of Wethersfield, a devoted friend and companion and numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 31, at 11:15 a.m., from the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home 136 South Main St., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at the Church of St. Peter Claver, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be held on Friday March 30, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
