Louise L. Cole

Louise LaPointe Cole died peacefully in her home at the age of 99 on November 23, 2016. Family were with her and she received the Last Rites of the Catholic Church. Louise was second oldest of seven children. She grew up in a close-knit family, enjoyed school, and worked as a bookkeeper after graduating. She married Frank S. Cole in 1940, brought up six children and found time to pursue lifelong interests in French, art, philosophy, nutrition, music, genealogy, Scrabble, bowling, and the weather. Louise traveled to Egypt and several European countries, saving the memories in albums/writings. Louise core values were family and faith. A steadfast and organized individual, she wrote a memoir of her father ( inventor the Pony Cycle and the Silent Glow oil burner ) entitled "I Remember Papa". Louise wrote about summers at Manitook Lake in Granby, CT and compiled a pictorial narrative of her husband's business success as founder and President of Reliable Mfg. Co. Louise loved large family gatherings at Elizabeth Park, in Greenfield, MA and "the Lake". She could recount 31 first cousins, all close to her and part of a way of life that has disappeared. Louise maintained lifelong good habits such as living within her means and religiously balancing her checkbooks. A petite woman, Louise weighed less than "100" pounds when she married, when she died and almost everyday between. Understanding the value of healthy living, she exercised throughout her life, ate for health, and died with all her own teeth intact. Louise and Frank made their home in Florida in 1987. Louise lost her spouse of 51 years to Legionnaires disease in 1991, but she pulled through the same deadly bacteria herself out of sheer love and determination for her children. Knowing they had just lost their father, Louise did not want them to suffer the loss of both parents. Louise leaves behind six children, eleven grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of quiet courage, integrity, dependability and the demonstrated value of good habits. Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 1, 2016 at 9:15 am. from the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home 136 South Main St., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm. on Wednesday November 30, 2016 at the funeral home.
