Juanita (Johnson) Alden

Juanita Johnson Alden, wife of Dr. John O. Alden, passed away on February 27, 2015 at Duncaster's Caleb Hitchcock Health Center in Bloomfield. She was born in Waynesville, MO, the daughter of the late Wilbur Baxter Johnson and Etta Brownfield Johnson. She was predeceased by two brothers, Alfie Johnson of St. Louis, MO and Ewell Johnson of Waynesville, MO. Mrs. Alden, or Nita as she was known by most of her friends, graduated from Washington University, St. Louis with a double AB/BS degree and subsequently was employed for several years as a market research analyst at a market research agency in St. Louis. Her former college roommate invited her to come to San Antonio, Texas where she stayed and worked as secretary to the commanding officer of the Randolph Air Force Base hospital. There she met Dr. Alden and they were wed in San Antonio on October 20, 1954 when he had completed his tour duty. After several years in Indiana they moved to West Hartford where they lived for 40 years. Nita was active in a number of volunteer and charitable activities and was a lifetime member of the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary, a 50 year member of PEO and a member of the Seed and Weed Garden Club and the Town and County Club. She was an elegant compassionate lady who made friends easily and was loved by many and adored by her husband. In addition to her husband of 60 years, she is survived by two nieces: Mary Etta Heggie of Kirkwood, MO and Suzie Everingham of Richland, MO, three nephews: Robert Johnson of St. Louis, MO, David Johnson of Waynesville, MO and John Johnson of Richland, MO; and eleven grand nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Town and County Club in Hartford on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 12 noon followed by a reception and buffet luncheon. A private burial service will be held prior to the memorial service.
