G. Rudolph Peterson

G. Rudolph Peterson, age 92 of West Hartford, formerly of Farmington and Wethersfield, beloved husband of Marion C. Peterson for 55 years, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2019 at The Reservoir where he made his home. He was the son of William A. and Selma J. Peterson. Rudy was employed for 43 years by Industrial Risk Insurers (formerly FIA). He retired in 1989 as an Assistant Regional Vice President of the Hartford office. He was a life-long active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, having served on the Finance Committee and the Church Council and was Chairman of the Stewardship Committee and the Modeen Scholarship Committee. He was also a former President of Capitol Towers. Rudy and Marion had many opportunities to travel the world with their wide circle of friends, mostly from church, and they enjoyed visiting family, particularly their grandchildren. He was a wonderful father to his children, providing stability, guidance, advice and any kind of help when asked. He was highly regarded by his family, friends and work peers. He is survived by his four children: Sandra Peterson and her husband Peter Tyson of Alamo, CA and children Brian and Sarah Tyson, Laura, and Mark; Terri Dwyer and her husband Walter of West Hartford and children Megan and Nick Germann, Caroline, and Michael and Elizabeth Dwyer; Mark Peterson and his partner Stephen Gatta of Los Angeles, CA; David Peterson and his wife Kathleen Peterson of Waterford and children Stephanie Livingston, Eric and Kristen Peterson, Melissa Peterson, and Justin Barczak; and great grandchildren Quinn and Van Germann, Jennie Michael, Juliette and Nicholas Thogmartin, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves a devoted former daughter-in-law Dawn Valentini. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marion, in 2006, and by his siblings Helga Matava, Lillian Dziedzic, Inez LaPointe and William Peterson. The family would like to thank the staff at The Reservoir for their kind and compassionate care of Rudy for the past three years, and also the staff at Middlewoods of Farmington where he lived the previous six years. Burial will be private and will take place in the Memorial Garden at Emanuel which Rudy was instrumental in creating.
