Evelyn Elaine Tilton

Evelyn Elaine (MacPherson) Tilton, 84, formerly of Farmington, passed away peacefully on Friday September 27, 2019 at River Ridge of Avon. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Richard C. Tilton. Born on March 4, 1935 in Bellevue, Prince Edward Island, Canada, she was the daughter of Alexander and Evelyn (Bears) MacPherson. She was one of twelve siblings to call Bellevue home. Elaine came to Quincy MA as a teenager, attending Ft Square United Presbyterian Church, where she met and fell in love with Dick Tilton. They married in June of 1958 and headed south to complete Dick’s commission in the United States Marine Corp. Elaine was a formidable team mate as she and Dick navigated his service, graduate school, many moves, job acquisitions, and the creation of a family. While raising four busy children, Elaine completed her Bachelors of Nursing degree. She was the rock and foundation of her family, an accomplished cook and baker, gardener, friend and reluctant but devoted caregiver to the countless four legged family members that took up residence. Elaine was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served on various committees and sang in the choir. She and Dick traveled the world, but home to her beloved Prince Edward Island was her favorite destination. Leisure time was consumed by countless sailing adventures, quiet times were for reading and the morning crossword puzzle. She adored her children and grandchildren. Elaine is survived by her children, Robyn Ott and husband Thomas Ott of Coopersburg PA, Peter Tilton and partner Jillian Cooney Oakes of Stonington CT, and Dr Kristen Fallon and partner John McKenna of Essex VT; grandchildren Ashley Maurer, Haley Lease, Madison Tilton, Tyler Fallon and Emily Fallon; and siblings Willa, Inabelle, Sandra, John, Sterling, Stephen, Arlene and Wendy. Internment of ashes will be Saturday, October the 5th at the Westminster Presbyterian Church 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford, Memorial Garden, starting at 11:00AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:30AM in the sanctuary.
