Debra Lee Blouin

Debra Lee Blouin passed away at her home on April 20, 2016 after a year-long battle with cancer; she was 56. Debra, born to Bernice and Robert M. Blouin, was the the second of five children. A 1977 graduate of Torrington High School and a 1980 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, she was a dedicated medical professional. Early in her career she worked as an ICU nurse at the VA hospital in Newington. Twenty years ago she accepted a position working with the underserved mentally ill in the New Britain area. It was there she found her passion and became a devoted and staunch advocate for her psychiatric patients. Debra was a compassionate caregiver, visiting her patients in their homes and administering healthcare services which allowed her clients to live independent lives. She was a fierce advocate for her patients, many of whom resided in the poorest of neighborhoods. She cared deeply for them all and for many years along with Michael purchased and delivered holiday meals, basic supplies, pet food, bedding and other necessary items when they had no money, bringing smiles and warm tidings. Deb will be remembered as a generous woman who loved to laugh, tell stories and spend time with her family. A dedicated, caring mother, she was immensely proud of her son Frank whom she loved with all her heart. Debra and her beloved soulmate Michael enjoyed evenings at the theater, fine dining, travel, and Saturday Night Live. She had a soft spot for abandoned cats and rescued several through the years, notably Atticus and Scout. She will be remembered with great fondness by those who were blessed to have known her. Debra is survived by Michael Higgison, her son Frank Roth, mother Bernice Blouin, brothers Robert Blouin and his wife Carol, William Blouin and his wife Patricia, Bruce Blouin and his wife Jennifer, Phillip Blouin and his wife Lauren, nieces and nephews, Nicholas, Katherine, Stephen, Matthew, and Samuel, as well as many dear friend.
