Charles "Dick" Timmerman

“He never asked anyone to do what he wouldn’t do himself” On March 8th, Charles Richard “Dick” Timmerman, 85, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Connie and 2 loving children, Tammy Timmerman and Michael (Kathleen) Timmerman. He is survived by his grandchildren Michael II, Morgan, Seth and Zoe Timmerman. He also leaves behind a sister Joanne Vanwicklen and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Marshall & Erma Timmerman, brother C. William Bethea and sister Phyllis Doyle. He was born March 7, 1938 in Virgil, NY and attended Virgil School. Following his graduation in 1956 he joined the United States Marine Corp and was honorable discharged in 1962. He was employed by the Dryden Telephone Company. In 1968, he and Connie purchased Willowbrook Golf Club in Cortland, NY. In the off season he was employed at Greek Peak Ski Resort for 22 years. Upon his retirement to Florida he worked for the PGA Champions Course in Palm Beach, Florida. He was a member of the Virgil Fire Department, the Y Men’s Club, the Elk’s Club, the VFW, and the American Legion. He was an original member of Central New York Golf Course Superintendent’s Association, a member of the New York State Turf Grass Association and a Lifetime member of the National Golf Course Superintendent Association. Dick was so proud of Tammy and Michael and the wonderful adults they’ve become. Instilling in them both his work ethic and pride in always doing your best. His greatest achievement was making Willowbrook one of the finest 18 hole golf courses around. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday March 14, 2023 at 2:30pm at the Church of the Good Shepard in Tequesta, Florida. A celebration of life will be held at Willowbrook Golf Club in Cortland, NY at a later date.
