Anne (Britton) Taggart

Anne Britton Taggart, 75, of West Hartford, passed away on July 23rd after a brief illness. A vibrant individual who cared deeply for her friends and family, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Britton II of Sunset Farm. She attended the St. Margaret’s School and Wheelock College, graduating in 1958 with a B.S. in Education. Her early teaching years were spent at Greenwich Academy and Tenacre School. Anne taught at, and was then the director of, Quaker Lane Nursery School from 1971-1988. In 1987, she earned her Master’s Degree in Early Education/Special Education from St. Joseph’s College. Anne then became the Childcare Coordinator for Central Connecticut with InfoLine in Hartford where she was an advocate for improvements to the childcare system. She continued her professional career as a Ready to Learn Coordinator for CPTV where she travelled the state conducting workshops on literacy and language. Her involvement in the field of education reached beyond the classroom through her work with Southside Family Center Advisory Board, the Charter Oak Academy Family Resource Center, the Community Renewal Team and the Children’s Services Horse Show. As a member of the Kent Historical Society, Anne took great interest in her family history, spending much time at her family home in Kent. As a past member of the Hartford Garden Club, she was an avid horticulturalist who loved nurturing her garden. Anne is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Skip and Karen Britton of Sarasota, FL; a sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Fred Lovejoy of Concord, MA; three daughters, Liz, Leigh and Sara, their spouses, five grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. On Monday, August 1st, family and friends are welcome to attend one or both of the following services: Asylum Hill Congregational Church in Hartford at 10:00 a.m. and a graveside ceremony at Kent Congregational Church Cemetery in Kent, CT at 2:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in memory of Anne B.
